Gone but never forgotten, Nelson Mandela was the South African revolutionary and politician whose long imprisonment became a rallying cry for destruction of apartheid. It is well known that he became the first Black president of the Republic of South Africa in the first democratic campaign. Nelson Mandela was a well known person but here are some few things you might not know about him :

1. His parents didn't name him Nelson

Born Rolihlahla Dalibhunga Mandela on the 18th of July in 1918, he attended a Jewish primary school in Qunu (where he was born) and his teacher gave him the name Nelson, according to the tradition of giving "Christian" names to students.

2. He was a poor student

Mandela as expected was expelled from the University College of Fort Hare due to his maximum participation in a student protest. He although completed his BA through the University of South Africa than went on to enroll for his Law degree at Wits. He, before he passed away, admitted that he was not a very good student and had left in 1948 without graduating, he added that he also was not enable to complete his Law degree that he started at the University of London in UK. Tata Madiba managed to get himself an undergraduate law degree. By the time he passed, he had received more than 50 honorary degrees from international universities.

3. He traveled under an alias

In 1962, Dr. Nelson Mandela took on the alias David Motsamayi and he secretly left South Africa for other parts of Africa and England to rally support for the liberation movement and the ANC; he obtained his magnificent military skills in one of the best bases in Africa, Morocco and Ethiopia.

4. He was a master of disguise

Tata Mandela as a highly recognized hero since the retros had to do an under-carpet movement in order to minimize his visibility from the cops, in his autobiography "Long Walk to Freedom." he stated that he pretended to be a chauffeur, a chef and a garden boy to name the few, quiet tricky but smart idea.

5. He loved sports

Dr. Rholihlaha loved sports and he merged them as part of his activism. He strongly believed that the world of sport has the power to change the world and it draws much inspiration from its acts.
